The Ministry of Finance in Adamawa plays a pivotal role in supporting the government’s mission to deliver democratic dividends to the state’s population. Originally established in April 1968 as the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, it underwent restructuring in 1995, resulting in the creation of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
Comprising six directorates, including common services like Personnel Management and Planning, the Ministry also oversees agencies such as the State Treasury Office and the Board of Internal Revenue. The latter, responsible for collecting tax-related Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), gained semi-autonomous status in 2006 for enhanced revenue generation.
The Public Finance, Computer Services, and Central Internal Audit directorates, along with other entities like the PF/DMO (Public Finance/Debt Management Office), contribute to the comprehensive financial landscape managed by the Ministry. The PF/DMO, initially a department, attained agency status in 2005, ensuring effective debt management.
Further reorganization in 2015 resulted in the PF/DMO merging with the Office of Finance, forming a department within the Office. This realignment aligns with the government’s commitment to efficiency and effectiveness in its financial operations. The Office of Finance, led by a Permanent Secretary, serves as a coordinating arm within the Ministry, contributing to its overarching financial objectives.
